How Matt Robertson Helped Shape the Tri-City Tide | Player Profile

A Familiar Face Returns to the Court

Matt Robertson’s signing with the Tri-City Tide in November marked the return of a well-known name in the Moncton basketball community. A former NBIAA All-Star and MVP at Moncton High, Robertson continued his growth at St. Thomas University where he earned Rookie of the Year and later team MVP. He later made his mark at Crandall University, finishing among the top players in the country in both scoring and rebounding, and earning ACAA All-Conference recognition.

Following his collegiate success, Robertson went on to play professionally with the Moncton Miracles in NBL Canada, where his leadership and grit stood out. Known for his competitiveness and passion, he brought those same traits back to Moncton in 2025 as a member of the Tide.

Making the Most of His Minutes

While his minutes with the Tide were limited, Robertson’s impact reached far beyond the box score. He appeared in eight games this season, bringing physicality and experience in every appearance. He averaged 1.3 rebounds and 0.8 points per game and made the most of his trips to the free throw line, shooting 71.4%. His strongest performance came against New York, where he grabbed three rebounds and scored three points in just five minutes of action.

Notable Performances Include:

  • 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 3-for-4 shooting from the line on May 16 vs. New York

  • 2 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal in limited minutes on March 28 vs. Tri-State

  • 2 rebounds and a steal in just under 15 minutes against Halifax on April 20

Even with short stints, Robertson stayed ready and made the most of every opportunity, especially during late-season stretches where depth and leadership were crucial.

Leading On and Off the Court

For Robertson, playing for Tri-City was just as much about the community as it was about the competition. A longtime coach and mentor, he brought his teaching background directly to the team’s outreach efforts. Whether it was helping lead youth camps, visiting schools, or guiding young players through the fundamentals, Robertson made a point to give back. His ability to connect with the next generation helped extend the reach of Tri-City basketball far beyond the court.

That leadership extended inside the locker room too. As new international players like James Towns and Devon Andrews arrived, Robertson had no hesitation taking a step back, offering support, and mentoring those around him. He helped simplify plays, talk through coverages, and guide teammates through the finer details of the game. That willingness to serve the team in any capacity made him one of the most trusted voices behind the scenes.

A Lasting Impact

Though his playing time was modest, Matt Robertson’s contributions to the Tri-City Tide were anything but small. As a Moncton native, a former pro, and a committed teacher of the game, he brought pride, perspective, and purpose to the franchise’s first year. His return was a win for the team, for the city, and for every young player who got the chance to learn from him.
