Get to Know Our New Guy | James Towns Joins the Tide

The Tri City Tide have added another weapon to the backcourt just in time for the home stretch of the season. Say hello to James Towns, a crafty 5’10” point guard from Detroit, Michigan, who’s bringing his talents to the Greater Moncton area after an impressive stint in the Basketball Super League (BSL).
A  former  powerhouse  for the London Lightning, James Towns is no stranger to winning. Known for his high motor, court vision, and ability to rise in big moments, the 5’10” point guard from Detroit is bringing that championship pedigree to the Tri City Tide.
While he began the 2024-25 season with London, Towns made a mid-season move to the Pontiac Pharohs—and that’s when things really took off.
With Pontiac, Towns averaged:
  • 26.4 points per game
  • 6.8 assists per game
  • 4.5 rebounds per game
  • 55.6% from the field
  • 44.2% from three
  • 87.5% from the free throw line
He wasn’t just consistent—he was electric. Towns logged heavy minutes and delivered night in, night out. In two standout performances, he dropped 42 points in back-to-back games, one of which included 10 assists and 5 steals. That kind of offensive firepower, paired with elite decision-making, made him one of the most dangerous guards in the league.
Despite the mid-season transition, he didn’t skip a beat—playing over 43 minutes per game, commanding the offense, and proving he could lead on the fly. That type of leadership and grit is rare—and exactly what the Tide have been searching for.
What does this mean for Tri City?
Towns brings immediate help at the point guard spot:
  • A floor general who can orchestrate the offense and keep teammates involved.
  • A scoring threat who can create his own shot or set the table.
  • A closer who isn’t afraid of the moment.
He brings pace, precision, and poise. And with his ability to score from all three levels, control the tempo, and lead vocally, Towns has the tools to shift the momentum in any game—and in the Tide’s season.
He’s already won big. Now, he’s ready to help build something special in Moncton.
Welcome to the Tide, James Towns. Let’s work.
