The Tri-City Tide took care of business this weekend, defending home court with two hard-fought wins over the Tri-State Admirals. Each game presented its own challenges, but the Tide found ways to grind out victories and keep their momentum rolling.
Game 1: Strong Start, Statement Win
Friday’s 115-102 win set the tone for the weekend. The Tide’s offense was clicking, led by Q Gibson, who put up an efficient 19 points on 63% shooting. The team also did a great job capitalizing on turnovers, a key factor in securing the win.
On the boards, the battle was tight, with the Tide getting out-rebounded 51-50. The bench also struggled to provide the needed spark, getting outscored 41-37 by the Admirals’ second unit.
One player who had no trouble standing out was De’Monte Nelson, who secured his second straight Spark Creative Player of the Game honor with an outstanding 28 points, 2 steals, and 3 assists. His ability to control the game on both ends played a huge role in the Tide’s success.
Game 2: A Gritty Battle Goes Down to the Wire
Saturday’s 88-83 victory was a much tougher test. The game was a battle from start to finish, staying neck-and-neck for most of the fourth quarter before a crucial technical foul against the Admirals shifted the momentum in the Tide’s favor.
Devon Andrews came alive, putting the team on his back with a game-high 26 points after a quieter performance in Game 1. His ability to step up in big moments proved critical in the tight contest.
A major spark off the bench came from KirVaris Myricks, whose impact didn’t always show in the box score. He finished with a +15 plus/minus, providing the energy and hustle the team needed to close out the win.
Room for Improvement
Even with two wins, there are still areas that need work. The bench production must improve, as they were outplayed in both games—41-37 in Game 1 and 42-25 in Game 2. The starters carried a heavy load, and as the season progresses, the Tide will need more consistency from their second unit to maintain this level of play.
Another key focus is ball security and execution down the stretch. While the Tide managed to hold on in Game 2, the tight scoreline showed that better shot selection and limiting turnovers in crucial moments will be necessary moving forward.
What’s Next?
With these two wins at home, the Tide now shift their focus to a tough road stretch next week. The competition won’t get any easier, and the team will need to build on their strengths while tightening up their weaknesses.
