James French Re-Signs with the Tri-City Tide

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to represent my community again by playing another season with the Tide.

Todd is an excellent coach that knows how to get the most out of his players. His style of coaching played a significant role in my growth both as a player and as a person. I look forward to continuing my basketball journey alongside him and my new and returning teammates.”

The Tri-City Tide have officially brought back a familiar and reliable presence, as James French re-signs for the upcoming season. A steady contributor both on and off the floor, French’s return reinforces the Tide’s commitment to versatility, defense, and leadership as the team continues to build its identity.

A Proven Winner and Leader

French arrived with a strong basketball résumé built on winning and leadership. A former Conference Player of the Year, he spent four years at Mount Allison University, serving as co-captain for three seasons. During his collegiate career, he helped lead Mount Allison to an ACAA Championship, showcasing not only his on-court ability but also his leadership in high-pressure moments.

His collegiate journey also included time at Crandall University, where he played under current Tri-City Tide Head Coach Todd McKillop. That relationship carried into the professional ranks as well, with French also playing for the Moncton Motion, further strengthening the familiarity and trust between player and coach. That shared history provides a strong foundation as French returns to the Tide system.

On-Court Role with the Tide

On the floor, French fills an important 3-and-D role for the Tri-City Tide. His ability to guard multiple positions, space the floor, and play within the flow of the offense makes him a valuable piece in a variety of lineups. Comfortable sliding into small-ball lineups at the power forward spot, French brings guard-like shooting mechanics, strong pick-and-roll instincts, and relentless energy.

During the 2025 TBL season, French averaged 3.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1 assist per game, while shooting 38.5% from three and 45.8% overall from the field, While the numbers don’t always jump off the page, his impact often shows up in the details, defensive stops, timely rebounds, and smart decision-making. Whether starting or coming off the bench, French consistently provided effort and stability.

His ability to defend, communicate, and make the right play allows others around him to thrive, making him a trusted presence in key moments.

Impact Beyond the Box Score

French’s value extends far beyond statistics. Known for his winning mentality and defensive awareness, he brings a professional approach that raises the standard within the locker room. His experience allows him to read the game at a high level, make adjustments on the fly and help younger players navigate the demands of a professional season.

Off the court, French continues to be a major part of the Tide’s community presence. He has played an active role in youth camps and community outreach, leading drills, mentoring young players and sharing lessons that extend beyond basketball. His ability to connect with athletes and inspire the next generation reflects the values the organization looks to represent.

Looking Ahead

As James French returns to the Tri-City Tide, his role remains clear: provide defensive versatility, spacing, leadership and energy every time he steps on the court. His experience, commitment to the game and passion for development make him an invaluable piece as the Tide look ahead to the 2026 season.

With French back in the fold, the Tide gain more than just a player, they gain a leader, a mentor and a proven competitor who continues to make an impact in every role he’s asked to fill.
